Help with kids/invitation wording?
I know, this is an OLD topic. But wanted to run my potential wording past the posters on the board. (FYI, we are getting married on our college campus and the chapel on campus holds 140, and we're at 140 on our guest list after making substantial cuts.) One of those cuts is all children under 10, which is a sizeable number. I'm not looking for a debate on that, as at least half of those kids are in my extended family and my relatives are fine with it. Plus, I'm not having a flower girl or ringbearer so people don't view me as "making exceptions". I'm thinking of including a small insert with something along the lines of: "Due to the intimate size of ____ Chapel, only children aged 10 and above will be able to be accommodated." I know the traditional etiquette is to just leave the younger ones' names off the envelope, but it seems like nowadays you really have to spell things out. (My relatives know about the cut-off, but there are many others who do not.) Does that wording sound good though, or does anyone have any other wording suggestions? Thanks everyone :) Kittenkatt, thanks for mentioning that with the kids in the reception - I can see where you can infer that. To clarify, I wouldn't be terribly overjoyed if the kids ended up the reception, but not terribly mortified either (not that I'll be saying that to anybody!) It's a fairly low-key reception though. Luckily, the campus is far enough that people can't just run home in between, but close enough that there's no anger about having to travel w/o kids (45 mins from majority). As long as parents respect our cutoff with the ceremony itself, I'll be happy.

How should I word this invitation?
We putting a surprise birthday together for my mom's 40th. I'm not sure how I should word it as I'm writing them out myself on blank cards. I don't want to mess them up. This is what I have so far. Your invited to celebrate (Name) SURPRISE 40th Birthday at (address) Guests should arrive at 3:30-4:00pm (Name) will arrive at 5pm. Dinner and Cake will be served. What ideas do you have for an 18th birthday party?
My friend and I are having a joint b-day party. Because we're turning 18 (and therefore officially adults,) the theme is "We're Going to Party Like It's 1999." Basically, the party is going to be similar to ones we had as children (irony!) We plan to send out invites on little-kid invitations. Some of the games/activities we've planned include a pinata and tye-dye. However, we need some more ideas that go a long with our theme. We want it to fit the "eight year old" theme, but still be cool enough that our friends won't get bored. Help!

Mall Scavenger Hunt List?
My sister is having a 12th birthday party at well, the mall. And it's going to be like... following this: "For my daughter's thirteenth birthday she had a Mall Scavenger Hunt and a sleepover. We had to make sure that it was a party she would remember, since she was no longer a kid. INVITATIONS: For the invitations, she made Visa Credit cards on the computer, with the guest's name on the front, and all of the information on the back. She printed it onto gold cardstock (for thicker paper) and got them laminated. She put them into envelopes along with confetti, and mailed them. She invited 7 people, plus her is 8. DECORATIONS: My daughter's favorite colors - white/grey and black - created the main color scheme. We had streamers and balloons in all of the rooms the girls would be in, along with whited christmas lights. We also bought black and white plates utensils and cups along with a cake that had white and black icing. PARTY: After arrival the girls just hung out for a while and then we drove them over to the mall. My daughter made a list of items that were needed to be bought at the mall pictures to be taken free items to be collected and a Bonus section. She printed out that list along with the rules such as all team members must be in the pictures etc. All girls pulled a bandana out of a bag and went to their teams (we had 2 teams of 4.) Then they decided amongst themselves who would be the captain. The captain received a cheap purse from the dollar store which held $40, a camera, the list my daughter had made, and the rules. The they had 1 1/2 hours to buy items (such as a stuffed animal or a brown hair accessory), take pictures (such as modeling designer handbags and wearing green lipstick), and collect free items (such as a business card or napkin). Each of these things were worth a certain amount of points - Purchases = 3 pts each; Pictures = 2 pts each; Free Items = 1 pt each. We also gave them about 1 1/2 hours to shop for themselves if they weren't tired. The girls came home for pizza, cake, and opening of presents. While they were doing this my husband got the photos developed so we could tally up points. The winning team got to pick a bag first. In the bag were the items that the teams had bought. After those were all gone, the girls made t-shirts. We gave them each a white t-shirt and set out scissors, tacky glue, a stapler, fabric markers, glitter glue, and extra multi-colored fabric. Then after 30 minutes, they voted on their favorites. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places got a crown and a huge lollipop. Then the girls had free time and they all went outside to play kick the can. Then they came in at about 10:00 for movies. Downstairs we had set up a snack bar with popcorn soda and boxes of candy. The girls watched a few chick flicks them stayed up until about three talking and listening to music. In the morning, I made homemade waffles and let them add syrup powdered sugar fruit and whipped cream. They LOVED them. Then the girls played around outside until their parents came at 10:30. We gave the girls their goody bags then finally got our rest. GOODYBAGS: For goody bags we gave out - along with the picture frames and scavenger hunt items - a lot of candy and 2 kingsized candy bars. Best pool party ever, no limits?
So this summer i want to throw a pool party in my backyard for our 8th grade promotion. we're going to highschool, and someone always has a party every year and i want to do it this year. i want to go ALL OUT. like no limits on money or anything. my backyard is huuuuuge and the pool has waterfalls and slides and everything. we're 14 year olds btw. im planning on having it catered by chipotle, and have a photo booth, and have it catered by dylan's candy bar. also, i plan on having a professional dj there. and maybe a raffle? like everyone gets a ticket when they come in and there are a few big prizes like ipod touch or xbox or something? some ideas for the prizes? drinks? games? nothing stupid and childish. obviously parents will be there. probably about 50-75 kids? invitation ideas? im thinking messege in a bottle, i did that for my tenth birthday though. anything else? im planning on having a sleepover after, and its gonna be in summer so could we sleep outside or is that unsafe with the pool? the pool has a white picket fence around it though because of my dog. and you can put anything, there are no money limits on this. also, i have fire pits in my back yard, so we could do smores or something. write any ideas please. :) go crazy.

Should I keep or remove my Harry Potter references?
For an invasive species project I chose the Snowy Owl.We have to make a "Wanted" poster, but not really a poster now she says because they are to big and hard to hang up, so instead I put it on a sheet of paper, and I have a few pictures. I get points for creativity, so I made a few Harry Potter reference. Like for its name I said it was Hedwig. I said that for it's "last seen" I said it was last seen sending out invitations to Hogwarts School of magic and wizardry. For reward I put "You make even get an invitation to join Hogwarts School of magic and Wizardry!" Of course I added real info...but that's creative I can get...I would of tried other things like for "Crimes Commited" I would of put it as trespassing into private homes...because it will be giving kids invitations to Hogwarts... I can't really think of anything else...it is a relatively easy project.... Of course I added the correct info too...not just a bunch of harry potter references... What do you think? Should I leave them? Or remove them? I'm not sure if the teacher will be showing this to other students...so I don't want to embarrass myself either...
